Sweetcorn 'Goldcrest' F1
Long, bold, and shamelessly firm, he stands there gleaming in the sun — all juicy curves and proud posture — as if daring you to wrap your fingers around him and take a slow, indulgent bite. He grows tall, taut, and impossible to ignore, offering himself up with a confidence that borders on downright wicked.
Sowing & Growing
Sow him outdoors from late May, once the soil is warm enough to welcome his roots. Give him rich, well-draining soil and a sunny, sheltered spot where he can rise to his full, impressive height. Space him 30 cm apart in rows 45 cm wide — he loves room to stretch, flex, and stand glorious and unrestrained. Keep him moist through dry spells, especially when his cobs begin to swell with sweet anticipation. Feed him fortnightly once he hits about 30 cm; he thrives on steady attention and responds eagerly to every bit of care.
Care & Conditions
Plant him in blocks so he can brush, mingle, and trade teasing touches with his companions — it’s how he pollinates best. Support him as he climbs higher and higher; he enjoys a firm hold while he shows off every confident, mouthwatering inch.
Harvesting
Take him when his silks turn brown and his kernels release that milky, irresistible sweetness at the slightest pressure. Morning is when he’s at his juiciest. With successive sowings he’ll keep giving and giving… yet somehow still leave you wanting just one more taste.
